The IOF community consists of Governance Board (GB), Technical Oversight Board (TOB), and Working Groups (WGs).
GB role is to maintain the health and effective operations of the IOF organization. TOB role is oversee the overall coherence and consistency of ontologies managed by WGs. TOB will consist of chair and co-chair of each WG and other members selected by the Governance Board. The IOF charter document provides more detail about the responsibilities of these two boards.
IOF WGs are responsible for building ontologies. IOF is currently in the Proof-of-Concept (POC) phase. The objective of the POC is to demonstrate 1) the feasibility to collaboratively develop diverse, yet consistent, reference ontologies in the industrial manufacturing domain and 2) the value of such reference ontologies. In the spirit of the POC, each WG focuses on a few core concepts in its respective use case. One WG, namely, the Top-down WG, is responsible for providing consistent terms and definitions of high-level entities used across other WGs. Please see each WG page for more information about each WG.
