While reading about David taking down Goliath, we often treat this as the underdog story to teach our kids and joke about in times that are coming up soon—March Madness! When a 16th seed college basketball team looks to take down the #1 seed, where nowadays all five starters are so talented and huge, they are making hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions already. But today I want us to take this more seriously than a game. Today there is a battle going on that is unseen, yet it's all around us. The battle is against Satan, who has been taking control and trapping so many in death and sin.
Today let’s be reminded of the truth of David and Goliath and the attitude David had toward him. David did not say, “I want to beat you!” No—read it again. He told Goliath and the Philistine army that his God was going to kill them. This is a war. We battle against the darkness of the world. Do we have the same attitude toward the sins in our lives that we are falling into over and over again? The sins that entice us daily to do wrong, and then when we commit them, the great accuser destroys us with guilt and shame. Satan wants us to fall into sin after forgetting about its effects or not caring, and then he wants to shame us and pull us away from God's grace. Pick up God's armor today, and let’s wage war on the sin that mocks our God and takes us away from Him.
