A number of unstoppable Special athletes etched their names in the annals of history books in the Division of Misamis Oriental.
Para-athletes coming from different Districts of Villanueva, Tagoloan, and Naawan in Misamis Oriental took sports into another level during the MORESGAA Meet 2024. They surprised everyone with their talents, abilities, and skills for the very first time in the Triangular Meet in the division of Mis. Or on April 17 to 20.
Sir Erwin Casiño, who is the Master Teacher 2 in Vicente N. Chavez Memorial School said that it’s very challenging, because the children are special, they have special needs.
“We only had limited time to prepare for our preparation because the announcement was late, but we managed to surpass the obstacles with the full support of the parents, and guardians, especially to our Supervisor and adviser who initiated this idea,” he added.
A total of twenty-eight Special Needs Education (SNED) learners participated for MORESGAA, and all of them have qualified for the Regional Athletic Meet in Camiguin Province.
They will pariticipate in limited sport events especially for them.
One is Bocce which is for students with intellectual disabilities while the other one is Goal Ball which is a team sport exclusively designed for athletes with a vision impairment.
“I am beyond proud and happy for them that they were able to perform gracefully while having fun, even though we are not able to watch them
closely, we are still able to watch their smiles on the field while dancing. I feel relieved.” One of the parents has expressed.
Likewise, student-athletes marveled at the unique experience they had with the para-athletes in the triangular meet.
“They are so cute, we really appreciate their performance and we’re also amazed by their talents they’ve shown to us” a student athlete from Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School has said.
In addition, Sir Casiño that we are so grateful to the school’s division superintendent for allowing us to participate.
“This is made possible because of the ideal collaboration between our special need schools and our education authorities,” explained Sir Casiño.
Despite the challenges, their power of competing in sports can instill confidence, and celebrate the unique abilities of the learners, regardless of challenges.
