SIMULCRUM 2026 was a project demonstration competition held on 2 April 2026 at IEM Kolkata, organized by the IEI-IEM Students’ Chapter (EE) in association with multiple IEEE student branches. A total of 34 teams participated, showcasing working hardware models and simulation-based projects focused on practical engineering solutions.

Projects were evaluated on innovation, technical implementation, feasibility, presentation, project understanding, and overall impact. Key areas included automation, embedded systems, renewable energy, IoT, and smart technologies.

The winners included projects on an Arduino-based DC microgrid, an autonomous surveillance drone, and a metro rail safety system.

POSTERNOVA (Poster Presentation)

Date:  2nd April, 2026

POSTERNOVA 2026 was a technical poster presentation competition organized by the IEI-IEM Students’ Chapter (Electrical Engineering) in association with various IEEE student branches on 2 April 2026 at IEM, Kolkata. The event featured 21 teams and provided students with a platform to showcase innovative ideas, research concepts, and technical knowledge.

The posters covered areas such as emerging technologies, power systems, renewable energy, electronics, and interdisciplinary innovations. The event promoted research aptitude, analytical thinking, creativity, communication skills, and knowledge sharing through expert evaluation and feedback.

The competition concluded with prizes for the winners, with topics including electric bus depot optimization, EV battery health monitoring, CropMind, and smart irrigation systems.

CODE-ON 2026: Hack for a Sustainable Future was a 48-hour online hackathon held from 20–22 March 2026, organized by the EE & EEE Department in association with IET-IEM On Campus under SKILLS STRIKE 5.0. More than 50 teams from 20 colleges across India participated, working on challenges related to energy management, rural sustainability, health, traffic awareness, civic policy, and cybersecurity.

The event had coding/screening and presentation rounds, with 13 teams reaching the final presentation round. The winners were Pixelators (1st – ₹10,000), Syn3rgy (2nd – ₹6,000), and Electra (3rd – ₹4,000).

The IEI–IEM Students’ Chapter (EE), Department of Electrical Engineering, IEM Kolkata, successfully organized the 7th Edition of APTECH 2025–2026, a flagship aptitude-based technical competition aimed at enhancing analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and competitive examination preparedness among students. The event was conducted in two stages — an online Preliminary Round followed by an offline Final Round.

The Preliminary Round, held on 21st December, 2025, was conducted in online mode and was open to students from all streams, including participants outside the IEM–UEM group. The round witnessed enthusiastic participation from students aspiring to test their aptitude

skills. Based on performance, the top-performing candidates were shortlisted for the Final Round.

The Final Round was conducted on 27th January, 2026, at the IEM Management House, commencing from 4:15 PM onwards. The shortlisted participants competed in a highly engaging and competitive environment, showcasing their aptitude, logical reasoning, and

quantitative abilities.

POSTER-ON (POSTER MAKING COMPETITION)

Date:  31st of October, 2025

POSTER-ON 2K25, organized under SKILLS STRIKE 5.0 by IET–IEM On Campus, was a technical poster-making competition aimed at showcasing students’ ability to present innovative engineering ideas, research insights and technological concepts through creative visual representation. Held on 31st October 2025 at the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Management House,the event provided a vibrant platform for participants to merge creativity with technical knowledge.

The competition encouraged participants to communicate complex engineering ideas with clarity and precision while highlighting real-world applications and innovative solutions. Each poster reflected a balance of analytical thinking, research understanding and design excellence bringing technology and creativity together in a single frame.

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) in association with IEEE Control System Society IEM Student Branch Chapter, Technically co-sponsored by IEEE Joint CSS-IMS Kolkata Chapter

Round 1: Quiz Competition – The first round consisted of a quiz session which was held on 1st September, where participants actively took part and showcased their knowledge. There were 22 teams that participated, and among them, 8 teams qualified.

Round 2: Main Event – The second round was the main event which was held on 3rd September where participants presented their ideas/performances and engaged with the audience and judges.

The Round 2 Event began with the gracious arrival of the Chief Guest Prof. Debasis De, who was warmly welcomed by the organizers. The session formally commenced with a welcome speech, extending greetings to the dignitaries, participants, and audience. 

 IEEE Robotics Competition

Date:  29th of August 2025

The IEEE Robotics Competition was organized on the 29th of August 2025 bringing together innovative student projects in the domain of robotics and intelligent systems. Team Bio-light Pioneers participated in the competition as members of the IEEE Control Systems Society, IEM Student Branch. They presented their project titled Vein Detector System, which focuses on the application of computer vision and embedded systems for detecting and accurately pointing to hand vein locations.

The project was well received by the jury for its practical relevance, technical implementation and interdisciplinary approach, which combined image processing, control systems, and robotics. In recognition of their work, the team was honoured with the Jury’s Choice Award.

The department of Electrical Engineering organized a 48-hour coding marathon – BRAINS, BOTS & BREAKTHROUGHS 2025, hosted by IEEE IAS SBC, IEM Kolkata. A total of 27 participants from various institutes took part, developing  AI-powered applications around themes such as Electric Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Robotics, and Cybersecurity.

The event began on 9th August 2025 at 10:00 AM with an online inauguration, followed by mentorship sessions, project submissions (APK files & GitHub repositories), and concluded with evaluations and the announcement of winners.

The SIMULCRUM project presentation session, held on 11th April 2025, showcased innovation, research, and hands-on problem-solving skills. Hosted in the Management Building of IEM Kolkata, this event complemented SIMULCRUM, creating a dynamic environment where theoretical concepts met practical applications. Participants from the EE and EEE departments presented posters spanning cutting-edge topics, fostering interdisciplinary discussions and peer learning. Discourse Duel 2024 (Debate Competition)

Department of EE, EEE and IET–IEM Student Chapter conducted CODE-ON, as a part of the third edition of the annual flagship event – SkillsStrike 3.0 on 21st January, 2024. CODE-ON was an online hackathon based on Data Structures and Algorithms.

Overall, 116 participants took part in CODE-ON on 21st January, 2024. This event was an individual event was conducted in online mode on the HackerRank platform. There were 10 programming challenges to be solved and the competition window was open from 12 hours.  The participants belonged to different streams and years and from reputed colleges like NITs, IIITs, VIT and many others. The prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions was ₹10,000 , ₹6,000 and ₹4,000 respectively.

The top three position holders are as follows:

IOCT 2022, the 1st Online International Olympiad on Circuit Theory organized by Department of Electrical Engineering, IEM Kolkata in collaboration with SMART SOCIETY, USA and jointly sponsored by Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata successfully held on 3rd January 2022 from 8 PM to 10 PM (IST).

The organizing team comprised of Prof. Dr. Madhumita Pal, Prof. Ranjita Chowdhury, Prof. Mandakinee Bandopadhyay would like to thank all the IEM-UEM family members for their support and cooperation. 

With 300 contenders from all over the world, it was a really thrilling and hard-fought competition. The IOCT was attended by participants all over the world and as well as from the eminent institutes of India such as IITs, NITs and IIITs, BITS Pilani, JU, IIEST Shibpur, and from different research centers and universities.
