five uppity women display

Women history month exhibit:


Five 14 x 22" poster boards, each with a photograph of an uppity woman. a 2-paragraph vignette and two of my colorful Hippie--woven potholders.


The women include SCUM {society for cutting up men} founder Valerie Solanas,

Emily Wilding Davison, first-wave suffragist trampled by the king's horse at Epsom Derby,

Rosalind Franklin whose x-ray crystallography work contributed to Watson and Crick's discovery of the double-stranded helical structure of DNA but died of ovarian cancer before her contributions were recognized

Henrietta Lacks, whose rapidly growing HeLa cells were harvested without consent and used to study effects of radiation and toxins on humans,

and Hedy LaMarr, whose discovery of frequency hopping developed to prebt torpedo guidance systems from beim jammed and led to the development of WiFi and Bluetooth technology.
