Allison Rossett has been a professor of Educational Technology for years at San Diego State University. In 1992, Rossett created a model of the causes of performance problems. The model consists of three phases:
- Analysis- this phase will consider and review all factors and stakeholders that have any influence on the production process.
- Selection- the difference between the desired and actual performance, the goals of the companies and potential causes of the gap are reviewed.
- Solution Systems- this phase consists of interventions necessary to close the performance gap. This phase is divided into four parts: human resources development, organization development, human resources management, and engineering.
- The HR development is made of training, incentives, career development, and motivation that will improve employees’ skills, motivation thus the organization overall performance.
- The organization development category focuses on how to organize employment to achieve greater performance.
- The third category is the management. Management always has a great influence on employee performance. The relation between employee and supervision, determines how well and secure the employee feels on the job site. The employee’s mood has a great impact on his achievement.
- The last category, the engineering, is made of the different electronic tools that may help the employee accomplish various tasks. An example is the electronic performance support systems i.e., any computer software program or component that improves user performance.
