Now
Today, 19 West Main Street is home to the Coach Sports Bar, a longtime local favorite known for its casual atmosphere and community vibe. In March 2025, the building was damaged in a three-alarm fire, but the owner has committed to rebuilding and reopening, continuing its legacy as a gathering place in the heart of Webster Village.
Mid-20th Century to Present
The current building was constructed in 1950 and has served various commercial purposes over the decades. The Coach Sports Bar has operated here for over 30 years, becoming a staple in the local dining and nightlife scene.
The Stagecoach Inn was devastated by a major fire in February 1969, which forced a rebuild of the historic structure. This 1969 fire was a significant,,, but not the only, early destructive event for the building, which also survived a fire in 1900.
Early 19th to Early 20th Century
Over time, the building changed hands and names, becoming known as the Stage Coach Inn, reflecting its deep roots in Webster’s early transportation and lodging history.
Russell Hotel Era
In 1849, Alexis Russell purchased the tavern and renamed it the Russell Hotel. After his passing, the Russell family converted the property into a boardinghouse, continuing its role in hospitality.
Spear's Tavern, 1812
The site’s history stretches back to circa 1812, when James Spear built the first permanent frame building on West Main Street. It operated as a tavern and stagecoach stop, serving travelers and locals alike.
