There are a few main ways that most students find housing in Davis:
joining an existing lease in the private Davis market
signing a new lease in the private Davis market
applying to live in on-campus housing or campus affiliated housing
Typically, people who join existing leases either know someone who is looking for a housemate, or look through housing groups on Facebook for posts about rooms for rent.
When students sign a new lease, they typically gather form a group of people to either sign a lease with an apartment complex, or they find a house for rent.
Some apartment complexes offer "by-the-bed" leases, where you can sign your own individual lease for one room or a shared room in an apartment, instead of signing a joint lease with multiple other housemates. This means you are only responsible for your room or spot in the unit, your personal security deposit, and you don't have to find someone to replace anyone who moves out of the unit. However, this also gives you less control over who your housemates or roommates are.
When searching for housing, it can be difficult to figure out what you want. Additionally, other factors like understanding lease timelines, or knowing what questions to ask potential housemates can be overwhelming.
Housing Advising for Undergraduate Students (HAUS) at ASUCD has peer advising to answer questions!

HAUS also hosts an annual Housing Week in Winter Quarter. They hold a variety of events to help students learn how to find roommates and to navigate the Davis housing scene. Check their Instagram for updates about the next Housing Week!
