Chicago Police Department Officer Giordano Jr. (Joe) Krieger was in Manitowoc for the weekend to visit his uncle Aldo , with whom he had a close relationship.
Joe followed in his father's footsteps, or rather, his father paved the way for the once-troubled teenager with mafia connections into lawful society, doing everything he could to keep his son in the department. Behind the facade of a confident man, he conceals a painful jealousy and envy of those around him, trying to numb his loneliness and inferiority with food and entertainment.
Joe walks the line between being a model citizen and a marginalized figure, maintaining ties with Doug's former partners and providing cover for their illegal activities in Chicago.
He's compassionate toward animals and regularly supports local charities, spending a substantial portion of his bachelor's salary. At the same time, he inherits his uncle's cynicism toward people, mixed with long-suppressed aggression.
In 2009, Joe faces a difficult choice: remain the same, working for the Chicago underworld, or overcome himself and change for the slim chance at happiness. A confirmed invitation to transfer to the Manitowoc Police Department appears in his mailbox.

The leader of his community, devoted to the people and bearing a heavy burden of responsibility for them. He is Hone's close friend, her mentor, and almost a father figure. Unlike his Earth clone, Nine is respected by the people, though he has more depressive thoughts. He is unaccustomed to discussing his problems and weaknesses, trying to maintain a leader's facade, which makes him appear distant and cold. He is especially demanding of Hone, seeing her as a future successor, but is unable to fully open up. He has a crush on Tau .
