Douglas (Doug or Duggie to his friends) was born in Guantanamo Bay to a large, poor family. At 15, he fled his home country in search of a better life. From an early age, he grew accustomed to the high-stakes, high-stakes, and high-stakes lifestyle, traveling from Louisiana to Michigan, eventually settling in Chicago.
