The purpose of this course is to macro-view the 39 Old Testament documents, which will include the main message and the structure of documents, and we will cover the author, the date, and the place of composition of the documents as well. Additionally, the background of the Ancient Near East and Jewish world will be introduced.
To equip students with basic knowledge of the Old Testament (OT).
To introduce the background of the OT.
To introduce the link between OT and NT (New Testament).
Reading: complete reading of the Old Testament. And the recommended reading.
Reading Notes / Summary: Students are required to take notes while reading the textbook and do a succinct summary of the selected chapters/ portions (marked * below) of about 1,500 words.
Class Participation: One point will be deducted each time you are late for class. But points will also be rewarded for Constructive participation that helps to enhance interaction in class.
Essay: write a brief reflection paper of about 3,000 words on ONE (1) Biblical character or incident that impacts you the most in OT.

The Revd. Alan Goh is currently a deacon at St Faith’s Church, Kenyalang, Kuching, He is married to Jane Chee Shiok Yen, and blessed with a son Solomon Goh and a daughter, Sophea Goh. The Revd. Alan graduated from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom with a B.Eng. (Hons) in Civil Engineering in the year 2000. He worked in a civil and structural consultant firm as a structural engineer and resident engineer from 2001 - 2006 before he shifted his career to be a lecturer to Architectural and Interior Designer students at Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology, Kuching campus from 2007 - 2018.
In 2019, he resigned and was sent to Seminary Theology Malaysia (STM) in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan for his Master of Divinity (MDiv) and returned to Sarawak to serve in St Faith’s Church, Kenyalang in October 2021. The Revd. Alan Goh loves watching kung fu movies, though he is not a sporty person. He is fond of movies portraying historical facts and scientific inventions. He loves nature and ponders upon how vast and awesome the nature and universe are. He has a passion for bringing youth up in their spiritual life. He is always in the learning mode and sometimes may be slow to respond as he may be thinking or perhaps reflecting on himself. Above all, he loves the Lord and wanted to serve Him to the best of his capability.
