All Christians have a part to play in the ministry of the church. We share in life of Jusus Christ, through the Holy Spirit by:
Proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom
Nurturing and teaching new believers
Responding to human need in loving service
Seeking to transform unjust structures in society
Safeguarding creation and sustaining and renewing the earth.
There are many ways of ministering. There are ministries undertaken by disciples in daily life as a natural, normal response to God's love - What we do and the way we do it: as parents, as a carer...in the neighbourhood attending to the routine of community, engaging with all and sundry...local and national politics...by giving time to listen...to volunteer...through seeing daily work as discipleship...
There are some ministries undertaken on behalf of the church, where we are asked because of particular gifts or skills: visiting the sick at home and in hospital; school chaplaincy; out-station ministry; baptism preparation and follow up; confirmation class; counseling the troubled and bereaved; PCC member; building and property committee; church warden; treasurer; administrator; prayer and study group leader; stewardship scheme; Reader; communication and publicity; hospitality; leading intercessions; lay Eucharistic assistant; women's Fellowship, youth work...
Usually these ministries will be for an agreed length of time and training will be given.
