Kemlings are a race with soot-colored skin, glowing yellow eyes, and dark hair. They are originally from the new lands of Giledzar on the northwestern edge of the continent, which is a land itself of soot, ash and volcanic rock. Their ancestry, as changed by the elemental magic, is mostly shadow and darkness based, and they are most at home in the overcast skies of Giledzar, or even under the pall of a dark cloud of volcanic ash, and they are much more nocturnal in habit than any other race. Daemons and other fell creatures live in the already difficult terrain of their homeland, and there's been a bit of a diaspora. Even though kemlings seem to match the nature of Giledzar, even they don't tend to love living there, if they can help it.  Many of them have spread to other lands, but their dark nature, which has also warped their personalities making them come across as overly macabre and borderline sociopathic to many other peoples, means that they don't tend to be very popular, especially in large numbers.

There is a persistent myth that the nature of the kemlings is itself, in fact, daemonic, and that they are like cambions or other part-daemons in their nature. Some, especially from Thamath, wonder if kemlings even have normal mortal souls, or if their spiritual fate is somehow "pre-damned"; they're yet paying the price for the sins of their ancestors, or failures in the world which preceded this one in which their immortal souls of all mortals originally lived before being born. For the most part, this is just theological navel-gazing, though, and has no effect on their life here in this world... but it is sometimes a source of additional mistrust of the kemling race by others, and they face skeptical attitudes wherever they go. Many, sadly, live up to these expectations, and kemling criminal organizations are not unknown in many cities outside of Giledzar; Cliffgate has one of the largest such, in keeping with its greater diversity and the kemlings' own desire to "circle the wagons" when in hostile territory, so to speak. The Chersky Mafia is the name of this organization, and branches of it persist in most cities and even large towns. Because the kemlings are willing to contract out some of the work to other races if necessary, there doesn't even need to be a kemling population of note to have a Chersky Mafia presence.

A kemling gains +1 to Dexterity, a racial affinity for Stealth, and low light vision as if wearing a biological version of night vision goggles.
