Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is a course designed for string instrument technique development.  Concert Orchestra concentrates on reinforcing technique fundamentals while playing exciting, difficulty-appropriate string orchestra repertoire.  As a result of class participation and individual assignments, students will strive to improve their playing technique while also focusing on creating music that is filled with emotion and excitement.  Grading is based on individual progress as witnessed through playing and written assignments, rehearsal participation, and concert attendance.  Honors credit is available for this course (please review Honors Credit tab)

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is a course designed for students looking to continue developing their string instrument technique.  Students will also work on developing musicality and maturity in their playing.  This class will enable students to perform music from an educational repertoire appropriate for high school musicians.  Students will also perform music from movies and selections from popular music.  Through rehearsal and performance students will learn about topics such as rehearsal techniques, correct and efficient ways to practice, following a conductor and leading a section, becoming an orchestral musician, and many more.  Grading is based on individual progress as witnessed through playing and written assignments, rehearsal participation, and concert attendance. Philharmonic Orchestra

Philharmonic Orchestra is a course designed for advanced string players looking to perform high level orchestral repertoire.  Students will concentrate on developing musicality, style, and maturity in their playing.  This class will enable students to perform music of advanced orchestral repertoire.  Through rehearsal and performance students will learn about topics such as rehearsal techniques, correct and efficient ways to practice, following a conductor and leading a section, becoming an orchestral musician, and many more.  Grading is based on individual progress as witnessed through playing and written assignments, rehearsal participation, and concert attendance. Chamber Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra is a course designed for highly advanced string instrument technique development.  This class will enable students to perform music of the orchestral repertoire in a chamber orchestra setting.  Chamber Orchestra meets every other day during the Early Bird (7:00 AM) class time. Students will focus on learning the intricacies of chamber playing such as balance, blend, and uniform playing.  Students MUST be simultaneously enrolled in either Symphony Orchestra of Concert Orchestra in order to be eligible to enroll in this Early Bird class.  Auditions take place in August/September of each school.  All students who audition into this ensemble receive Honors designation for this orchestra.  Grading is based on individual progress as witnessed through playing and written assignments, rehearsal participation, and concert attendance.

Orchestra Winds and Percussion

This class is for members of the band program who wish to be a part of the Symphony Orchestra.  Instruments included are flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion.  Students enrolled in the class will join the Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra strings to perform music. Orchestra Winds and Percussion meets every other day, opposite of Chamber Orchestra, during the Early Bird (7:00 AM) class time.  Grading is based on attendance, class participation, and concert participation.  Concurrent enrollment in a band class is required.
