Was Your Ancestor a Top-Knocker?
Was Your Ancestor a Top-Knocker?
Sometimes in researching older documents you come across words that are unfamiliar but that make you wonder. For me, it first happened while looking at the Revolutionary War record for my ancestor, Jesse Belknap. On which his military roll was Artificer. What? So I researched and it meant a military mechanic who does repairs.
Over the years I have come across some good resources for old occupations. We will look at one today and I will share some others at the end of the quiz.
Hall Genealogy Website - Old Occupation Names (http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/a.html) Each question will reference an occupation and you need to look it up and tell me what it means.
