Everything you didn't know was there.
FamilySearch Catalog links us to genealogical materials (including books, online materials, microfilm, microfiche, and publications) made available by FamilySearch online and in libraries and centers worldwide. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog FamilySearch is continually working to digitize these materials and make them available when possible. Today we will look at some records for Kootenai County, Idaho.
Hint
When searching by place type in largest to smallest government entity. For today’s challenge that would be, United States, Idaho, Kootenai
Place Search results are grouped by category. I.e. United States, Idaho, Kootenai - Cemeteries (5). This means there are 5 collections in the category (Cemeteries). Click on the group to expand and see collection titles.
Each collection may have several films. Key details in the film description are the date range in the Note column, the Item # in the Film column, and the Format.
Making note of the date range can help us decide if our ancestor’s timeline matches.
Under the Film number is an Item number or range, i.e. Item 1 or Item 2-4. When you view a film, there will be several thumbnail images. Items are indicated by black pages with white numbers to show the beginning and end of an Item.
Format - A camera icon with a magnifying glass means you can view it and it has been indexed (searchable). A camera icon with a key means you need to view it at a Family History Center, Family History Library, or an affiliate library. Just a camera means you can view the images by browsing. A film icon means it has not yet been digitized.
