Some research sites require a subscription but still offer free collections. Fold3 features original military records and is available for research through the Portal at the Hayden Lake FHC. One of their free collections is the War of 1812 Pension Files. The record might give the date of disability or death of the soldier, military details, and/or widow & minor children’s details. Please search the collection for John L Comstock.
