Every season, members are given 5 rolls on their character cards. You can use these by opening an investigation roll ticket in the ticket channel, and a search roller will get you started! (Please check the pinned messages in this channel to see how to open a ticket!)
These rolls are used for your character to search for materials and treasures, engage in combat with enemies for rewards, pacify new pets, or discover something new! The types of rolls are listed in detail below; however, please refer to the Location Index Sheet for details on individual locations' reward and enemy lists!
[Introduction]
Any character can do investigation rolls, provided they have a reason to be in the location they're searching in! If your character is searching in another Tribe's territory, please make sure to have permission from that admin to search there- otherwise, your character could get in IC trouble, and it could affect Tribe relations!
If your character is a kitten, they must be accompanied by an adult- typically their parent or guardian figure!
As there are several neutral land locations to choose from, outsiders and outlaws alike are welcome to do investigation rolls as they please!
[Rerolls]
All members are given 1 free reroll chance per season. This can be used on any unfavorable roll you receive- please use it wisely, since you only get the one!
[Rank Perks]
There are some ranks that benefit investigation rolls. If you want that extra boost, make sure to utilize characters within these ranks!
Excavators - Earns 2 more ore when found
Jewelers - Earns 2 more gemstones when found
Tracers - Able to choose the material gained on a successful material roll, up to 2 times per season
Other ranks, like aquatists, rangers, and mediums, may be useful when encountering other creatures you wish to tame- and others, like firewatch, architects, and others, may be more useful in combat situations!
[Types of Rolls]
Investigation rolls are sorted into several categories, based on what you/your character are looking for! You may mix and match these rolls as much as you want, provided limited rolls aren't done more than their allotted times, or you can do the same kind of roll 5 times in a row if that makes you happy!
These are the types of rolls available:
Material Roll- Character searches for materials in x location (unlimited)
Treasure Roll- Character searches for treasures in x location (unlimited)
Combat Roll- Character seeks to fight or pacify enemies in x location (2 per season)
Discovery Roll- Charcter discovers something in x location (2 per season)
[Material Rolls]
The goal of a material roll is to search for common materials in the given location. The player should select which character they're using, which location they're searching in, and what type of roll they're going for.
Example: "Kozume is doing a material roll in Usagi Springs."
Here's how material rolls work:
1. A d10 is rolled to determine success. 1-3 mixed success (2 of the rolled item), 4-10 success (3-5 of the rolled item).
2. A d10 is rolled to determine the item found. This is location-based, so please refer to the location you're searching in on the Location Index.
Example:
1. A d10 is rolled, and lands on 6. This is a successful roll (3-5 items).
2. A d3 (3, 4, and 5, respectively) is rolled to determine the number of items gained, and lands on 2. We'll gain 4 of the rolled item on this roll.
3. A d10 is rolled to determine the item, and lands on 7. Since we're doing a material roll in Usagi Springs, we've obtained 4 moss!
[Treasure Rolls]
The goal of a treasure roll is to search for specific treasures in the given location. The player should select which character they're using, which location they're searching in, and what type of roll they're going for.
Example: "Kozume is doing a treasure roll in Usagi Springs."
Here's how treasure rolls work:
1. A d10 is rolled to determine success. 1-4 mixed success (1 of the rolled item), 5-9 success (3 of the rolled item (1 if equipment)), 10 stellar (5 of the item (2 if equipment).
2. A d10 is rolled to determine the item found. This is location-based, so please refer to the location you're searching in on the Location Index.
Example:
1. A d10 is rolled, and lands on 6. This is a successful roll (3 items).
2. A d10 is rolled to determine the item, and lands on 7. Since we're doing a material roll in Usagi Springs, we've obtained 3 Naga's Feathers!
[Combat Rolls]
The goal of a combat roll is to fight and defeat (or attempt to pacify) an enemy in the given location. Enemies range in difficulty and species depending on location. Pacification chances decrease with enemy difficulty, and bosses cannot be pacified. The player should select which character they're using, which location they're searching in, and what type of roll they're going for.
Example: "Kozume is doing a combat roll in Usagi Springs."
Here's how combat rolls work:
1. A d10 is rolled to determine the enemy type and difficulty.
2. If the enemy comes in a pack, the appropriate die is rolled to determine how many enemies are encountered.
3. Combat ensues as normal. Please refer to the Combat journal for fighting and pacification.
4. Combat ends when all enemies are defeated or pacified, or when the character is defeated.
5a. Upon defeating the enemy, the player can claim 5 materials that make sense for the enemy. (ie. A lynx can drop 5 fur.)
5b. Upon pacifying the enemy, if it is a tamable species, the character may attempt to tame the creature and can claim 5 materials upon pacify.
5c. Rewards for defeating enemies increase by 1 per star rating.
Example:
1. A d10 is rolled, and lands on 7. Since we're rolling in Usagi Springs, we'll be fighting a fox.
2. This isn't a pack animal, so it'll be a single enemy.
3. Combat ensues.
4. Presumably, Kozume defeats the enemy. He gains 5 teeth for defeating a fox.
[Discovery Rolls]
Discovery rolls have many possible outcomes, though they are typically used for their good chances at large prizes and taming encounters. The player should select which character they're using, which location they're searching in, and what type of roll they're going for.
Example: "Kozume is doing a discovery roll in Usagi Springs."
Discovery rolls have the following options:
1-3: Tameable Pet Encounter
4-6: 25 earned EXP Reward
7-8: Free Skill OR 2 Legendary Shards
9-10: Rare Find Bundle
Here's how discovery rolls work:
1. A d10 is rolled to select from a number of outcomes.
1a. Tamable pet encounters are rolled with a d100 for their rarity (1-10 are, 11-35 uncommon, 36-100 common). The character will then need to roll to tame the animal. If they succeed, the user obtains a pet slot of that rarity and location (ie. "Rare Pet- Usagi Springs). Pets are location-based, so must be realistic for that location. For example, a wisp dragon would not be found in Usagi Springs.
1b. Gaining the 25 EXP reward goes into a user's earned EXP count, not into the Tribe Cup. Obtaining this reward does not count for your activity check that season, but you will still be able to spend the EXP.
1c. Characters who have learned all of their skills already will earn 2 legendary shards on a "learn a skill" roll.
2. Upon rolling the rare find bundle, the player will receive 1 rare material, 1 refined material, and 1 common set equipment piece of choice.
Example:
1. A d10 is rolled, and lands on 6. Since we're rolling in Usagi Springs, we'll be encountering a tamable pet in that area.
2. A d100 is rolled to determine animal rarity, and lands on 77. This is a common animal.
3. The taming process takes place.
4. Presumably, Kozume tames the pet. A "Common Pet- Usagi Springs" slot is placed in my inventory for later.
