Time travel is used often in works of literature and in film to give the viewer a unique experience with something human kind has always dreamt of. Harry Potter's Prisoner of Azkaban uses the time turner so that Hermione can get to her classes on time while Bill and Ted use the telephone booth to work on a project for their world history class. In both movies the characters can go back in time and the time turner was given to them by their mentor. For Hermione, that is Dumbledore and for Bill and Ted, that is Rufus
The rules in Harry Potter, they aren't allowed to be seen by anyone from the past, while for Bill and Ted they do the opposite. In fact, their goal is to bring the past with them back into the future. Hermione uses the time turner very carefully while Bill and Ted seem to be very careless with how the treat their time machine. Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure is supposed to be a comedy though, so their treatment of the machine is different from Harry Potter's in a good way.
