Spiders In Text

Spiders are used commonly in various mythological pieces. Often times, spiders represent patience and persistence. This is presented through the careful and tedious waiting of spiders for their pray to enter their webbing. In some cases, (not Harry Potter,) spiders symbolically represent feminine power. In various pieces of literature, the spider shadow character is a female. This promotes ideas of women dominance in literature.

Spiders also create a strong sense of interconnection in a piece of text. Their webbing and connection of ideas creates a strong sense of balance and interconnection. Spiders are often a source of fear for characters. Spiders have inhabited the earth for over 300 million years, and continue to be a strong central force for fear and terror. Although they bring fear to characters, they often times bring strong strings of wisdom. This corelates with the fact that they have inhabited the earth for as long as they have.

So, although spiders strike fear into one's eyes, often times this is in exchange for some extremely valuable information. Spiders are a strong character to use for a solid "shadow experience" in a piece of literature.
