Becoming Me Youth Mentoring Program
For Afro-Caribbean Young People (Ages 15 – 18)
A trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive Mentoring Pathway
This mentoring programme deepens the Becoming Me cohort work by offering consistent, trusted relationships that support identity development, confidence, resilience, and future readiness for Global Majority young people.
Duration: 12 weeks
Model: 1:1 mentoring (primary) with optional small-group circles
Session Length: 60 minutes (1:1)
Frequency: Weekly
Mentor Ratio: 1 mentor : 1 young person
Programme Purpose:
The mentoring programme supports young people to:
Develop a strong, self-defined identity
Navigate cultural expectations and dual identities
Build confidence, voice, and decision-making skills
Manage pressure, stress, and emotional overwhelm
Clarify goals for education, work, and life
Experience a safe, affirming relationship with a trusted adult
Mentoring Principles:

Choice, consent, and autonomy
Cultural humility (not assumptions)
Strengths-based and future-focused
Boundaries, confidentiality, and safeguarding clarity
Mentoring Outcomes
By the end of the programme, mentees will:
Articulate who they are and what matters to them
Demonstrate increased confidence and self-trust
Use practical tools for emotional regulation
Set and maintain healthier boundaries
Identify next steps for education, employment, or training
Know how and when to seek support

Option 1: Mentoring (core)
12 weeks. Includes:
Weekly 60-minute 1:1 mentoring sessions (12 total)
Trained, DBS-checked mentor
Mentee workbook & resources
Individual goal-setting and review
Safeguarding, supervision, and quality assurance
Entry & exit outcome measurement
Completion certificate
Cost per young person: £1,200
OPTION 2: 1:1 Mentoring (Enhanced Impact Package)
12 weeks + future planning support
Includes everything in Core Package PLUS:
Education/employment pathway planning
Values-to-career mapping
Extended final session with transition plan
Written progress summary
3-month post-programme check-in
Cost per young person: £1,500
OPTION 3: Small-Group Mentoring (6–8 Young People)
12 weeks; Weekly 2-hour sessions. Includes:
Co-facilitated group mentoring
Peer connection and leadership development
Workbooks and group activities
Safeguarding & supervision
Group-based outcomes report
Total cost: £3,600 (£450 – £600 per young person)
OPTION 4: Cohort + Mentoring Pathway (Best Value)
Becoming Me Group Programme (6 weeks) + 1:1 Mentoring (12 weeks)
