Haidak is a DJ based in Europe who has kept himself busy over the past few months by honing his craft even further, learning more about the industry, and sharing to the world via his series of blogs.

In line with his advice to young DJs to keep on experimenting and mixing, today's blog will talk about one of the most intriguing fusions of music genres that Haidak is very familiar with – electronic dance music (EDM) and jazz.

While this genre, called Nu Jazz, has existed for years, it has never really been fully recognized by the mainstream audience. After all, who would've thought EDM and jazz would blend so well?

But guys such as DJ Quantic and Robert Glasper have made their mark by experimenting and creating seamless mixes of soulful jazz sounds and the sharper, quicker EDM beats. The key to it, Haidak mentions, is rhythm. Of course, time to prepare and mix tracks is a must. This marriage of genres cannot be done at the drop of a dime.

Nu Jazz only further proves that music can be mixed. In fact, some DJs in the world see it as an inevitability and expect more unconventional combos in the future, such as trip-hop and dark metal, and prog rock and Motown. Haidak cannot wait to hear all these mixings and witness what effect they'll have on listeners worldwide.

Haidak is an up-and-coming DJ and music producer who has found his home base between Koh Phangan and Amsterdam. Born in Washington, D.C., Haidak discovered a love for electronic music early in life. At 17, he made the leap and purchased Ableton and got to work learning the craft. More on music production and promotions here.
