Lives in: Glasgow with mum and older sister (22 years) and brother (20 years). Spends some time during the week staying with maternal grandparents as mum works night shift.
Likes: Cora enjoys playing football and is the centre forward for a local girls team. She enjoys video gaming (especially Sim games) and using the computer to be creative: loves photography and making videos. She is thinking about creating her own YouTube channel but mum wants Cora to wait until she is a little older.
Cora is in Primary 7 at School and is about to move onto secondary school in August.
Cora is not keen on academic type subjects like English and Maths although she does very well in them when she applies herself. She needs to be persuaded to do homework.
Cora loves taking part in projects that are creative. She would like to be an a photographer.or film making or both.
Cora also enjoys participating in School committees such as the eco-group and the entertainments groups.
Cora lives with mum, older sister and brother. She visits her dad on a Saturday and stays overnight with maternal grandparents when mum works the night shift.
Responsibilities include walking grandparents dog and general chores like keeping her bedroom clean and tidy and putting her laundry in the laundry basket.
Cora is responsible for doing her school homework as she faces consequences if she doesn’t.
She is responsible for cleaning her football boots and making sure her team kit is packed in her bag for training nights and game days.
Cora has a smartphone and has access to a laptop at home.
She is IT literate for her age, demonstrating skills in using the internet to find information and using software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create presentations for School. She also uses the laptop to edit video which she records using her smartphone.
She talks knowledgeably about copyright and internet safety - topics that have been covered in School.
Cora has an awareness of history as some topics like the first world war have been covered in school. She has been on several School trips to learn about Scottish history (e.g. Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery) and the industrial revolution of the 1850s (e.g. New Lanark Heritage site).
She knows about London and the significance of the city within the UK and has some knowledge of famous historical and tourist landmarks, e.g. Big Ben and the London Eye.
She has never heard of Covent Garden.
She supports Chelsea FC and would love to go to a football match and/or visit Chelsea's football stadium (Stamford Bridge).
A trip to London has been organised and she will be going on a Stadium Tour with her Grandad on one of the days but there are another two days in which to explore London.
Mum has been to Covent Garden before and would like to take Cora there as she thinks there is plenty to interest her daughter.
Cora is looking forward to travelling to London as she has never been before. She is especially excited about going to the football match and purchasing the latest Chelsea football top.
Having never heard of Covent Garden, Cora is feeling excited about touring the area. She has since heard about the Apple Market and hopes to see the crafts and buy something for her grandmother.
Cora is looking forward to using her smartphone to document her experience - take photographs and video so that she can create some story videos to share with her friends.
Although Cora’s main motivation is to go to see Chelsea Football Club so other activities during the families trip to London need to fit with her interests. Cora is creative so a successful trip will be making sure Cora has the opportunities to use her smartphone to take photographs and video.
Cora will need to be able to connect to the wifi or have her smartphone data allowance increased to make sure she can share her experiences.
Cora’s mum hopes that this experience will also help Cora to see that learning can be exciting.
Cora is very creative and energetic. She loves playing football which provides an outlet for her energy.
She takes her smartphone everywhere with her and enjoy’s keeping and sharing her activities with her friends. She has a particular aptitude for creating and editing video/digital stories.
She does use Facebook but Mum monitors her phone to make sure that she is interacting only with her local friends whom she knows personally.
