Course Description:
Principles and case studies in communication law, constitutional guarantees, libel, privacy, contempt, privilege, copyright, and government regulatory agencies.
This class is offered as either Journalism 3100 for undergraduates or Journalism 5100 for graduate students. The assignments are the same except for a paper that is required for graduate students.
For my research paper, I used my expertise in drones and training as a part 107 license holder to look at current laws related to the use of drones.
Because drones are still very much an emerging technology, the laws are still very much in flux. Most academic papers are already out of date because the laws are changing so quickly.
I also looked at issues including airspace ownership, privacy, and attacks on drone pilots. The goal was to serve as a primer for journalists interested in using drones.
