Why Native Plants Matter
Native plants are the backbone of healthy ecosystems, supporting birds, pollinators, and people. Research highlighted by the Ardsley Pollinator Pathway shows how crucial they are, for example, native oaks support hundreds of caterpillar species, while many non-native trees support very few, yet thousands of caterpillars are needed to raise a single brood of birds. By choosing native plants in our yards, we can restore habitat and help local wildlife thrive, and tools like Audubon’s native plant database make it simple to get started.
