About the Greenburgh Conservation Advisory Council
In municipalities throughout New York, Conservation Advisory Councils (CACs) serve as advisory bodies to local governing boards, planning boards, and zoning boards of appeals. By providing an environmental perspective on land-use proposals, comprehensive plans, stewardship of natural areas, and other issues, CACs contribute to local land use decision-making, conservation, and quality of life for residents in the community.
The New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) requires all state and local government agencies to consider environmental impacts equally with social and economic factors during discretionary decision-making. Conservation Advisory Councils are established by a municipality under Article 12-F Section 239-x of NYS General Municipal Law.
Under the Town Code, the CAC advises the Town Board, other boards of the Town and Town officials on environmental matters as they relate to the Town and its residents. This encompasses proposed Town Code legislation and proposed land use projects in the Town.
CAC meetings are generally held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, at 6:30 pm. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are given an opportunity to speak. To learn more, visit: Conservation Advisory Council
