Would you rather have a pet dragon or a pet unicorn? Why?
GOALS:
To identify the people and places that make up our community.
To recognize the I CAN! Power already present in our community.
Materials:
3 posters cut in half
5 cones

speaker/music
Getting on Board Setup
Write Hawthorne at the top of the poster (5)
Choose 5 parts of the community (libraries, animal shelter, parks, schools, local businesses.)

BIG IDEA:
"At the end of every GOTR season, our team completes a community impact Project to make a difference in our community. The first steps of this project, and today's big idea is Notice the I CAN! Power in our community!
What do you think our big idea means?
To begin, let's think about the places and people in our community." (NAME 5, one for each poster)
ACTIVITY:
There will be one poster at each cone (5)
When I play music, move around the cones any way you feel.
When the music stops, add to a poster.
When finished move around the cones again and try to add to all 5 posters
Hand each Girl a marker to start.
WORKOUT:
Bring the posters to the picnic table with markers
"The first part of making a difference in our community is to recognize the I CAN! Power that is already there! Why do you think it is important to stop and notice the I CAN! Power in our community before we rush in to help?
(it is important to recognize the seen and unseen mountains people may be moving or the hard things they already do. it's important to see the strength and the needs in our community so that we don't help them do something they are already doing well.
You will complete laps in small groups
Each will be given a poster to complete
before each lap choose 1 person or group from the poster and discuss what hard things they do.
continue this until all mountains they move are described. after they can complete laps independently
