Connecting HCFM to the Global Holy Cross Family
Father Fred Jenga, C.S.C., Ph.D.
President, Holy Cross Family Ministries
Dear Friends in Christ,
I hope you are experiencing a joy-filled Christmas season. Yes, it continues until the Presentation of our Lord on the 2nd of February!
Since the last Global Newsletter, I have traveled extensively and met many of you in person. As I prepare this message, I am visiting Ghana and Uganda, then I am on to India and Bangladesh (if I am granted the needed visas). The amazing work in our ministry centers inspires me and ignites in me an even greater fire to serve those entrusted to us. Thank you to all who make this work possible.
As the months evolve in my new role as President, I have spent much time praying and reflecting upon how the ministry has changed over the years, and what the Lord is calling us to do as we move forward. Holy Cross Family Ministries has grown in different directions and expanded to many different countries. These changes are a blessing and at the same time pose a challenge to articulate who we are, and what we do. I have spent a good amount of time trying to identify a finer way of articulating ourselves as an organization. I have shared my preliminary thoughts with the different levels of leadership in the apostolate. A definition that has been running in my mind recently runs as follows:
Holy Cross Family Ministries is an international Catholic apostolate, rooted in Marian spirituality, and under the sponsorship of the Congregation of Holy Cross, whose core mission is to educate families about the power of prayer and nurture the practice of family prayer.
Our primary goal is to live out and promote the message of our founder Venerable Patrick Peyton that, “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together” and “A World at Prayer is a World at Peace.” To this, I would also add that, “A Home at Prayer is a Home at Peace.”
Looking at our past and the present, I have proposed six preliminary thoughts that I think will be of benefit to the organization as we move forward. I look forward to expounding upon each of these ideas in the coming issues of the Global Newsletter. The six points are:
1. Renew our Founding Trust in the Power of Prayer
2. Re-center the Rosary as our Organizing Principle
3. Rekindle our Missionary Spirit to Families
4. Give Closer Attention to Contextual Realities of families
5. Carefully Steward our Resources
6. Increase Closeness to the Congregation of Holy Cross and the wider Church.
Know how I am grateful to serve with each one of you in this role as President of Holy Cross Family Ministries.
Together in Mission,
Father Fred Jenga, C.S.C.
Father Pinto Paul, C.S.C., Ph.D.
International Director
We are happy to connect with you with yet another inspiring issue of Our World at Prayer Global Newsletter. Thanks to all our team members around the world, for the manifold ways they make God’s love come to life through their faith, family, friendship, and support in the mission.
As we are breathing out 2022 and breathing in 2023 with fresh hope for families and individuals, we pray that this year we may grow happier, healthier, and holier.
We become happy, healthy, and holy when we discover our identity as children of God and grow in our faith in Jesus, who came to reveal to us the fullness of joy. We become happy, healthy, and holy when we build our relationship with God in our family, for it is where life begins, faith is planted, hope is nourished, and love never ends. We become happy, healthy, and holy when we find good friends like you, for they are the medicine of life. We become happy, healthy, and holy when we find our vocation and mission, for it is where we can grow to that height of love, compassion, and care for humanity.
We wish you a happy, healthy, and holy New Year 2023!
Father Pinto Paul, C.S.C., Ph.D.
"If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed. Only in this friendship do we experience beauty and liberation."

Family Rosary USA used the Advent season to invite families to slow down and embrace the time as an opportunity to open their hearts and homes to the presence of God. We reminded families how the Catholic faith provides a time of preparation before entering the Christmas season—a time to come together, reflect, and pray—at Mass, around the Advent wreath, and with devotions such as the Rosary. We created a variety of resources to help people answer the important question of how to prepare our families to welcome Jesus more intentionally at Christmas.

The first church children experience should be the domestic church. As shown in PRAY: THE STORY OF PATRICK PEYTON, the founder of Family Theater Productions began his faith life on his knees as a boy in Ireland, praying the Rosary with his family. His whole mission was about the idea he popularized: “The family that stays together prays together.” Whether it’s the Rosary, morning and night prayers, grace before meals, or all of the above, the school of prayer begins at home.
In a scene from PRAY: THE STORY OF PATRICK PEYTON, the Vasquez family says grace before dinner, one of many ways to bring Christ into the home.

Please pray for the speedy beatification and canonization of Venerable Patrick Peyton, founder, Holy Cross Family Ministries
Dear Jesus,
Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to strengthening the families of the world by calling them to pray together every day, especially the Rosary. His message is as important for us now as it was during his life on earth.
We beg you, therefore, to hasten the day of his beatification, so that Your faithful people everywhere will remember his message that the family that prays together stays together, will imitate him in his devotion to Your Mother and ours, and will be inspired by His holy life to draw ever closer to You with childlike confidence and love.
Amen.
