The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
In PE 302, I took a leadership self-assessment test and after taking the test I thought my results were well-aligned with who I am as a leader. I can take this artifact and implement it towards my gym and students.
The knowledge indicator 9E from the Illinois Professional Standards (2013) states, "The competent teacher is cognizant of his or her emerging and developed leadership skills and the applicability of those skills within a variety of learning communities;" (IPTS 2013).
Taking these self-assessment tests can give me further knowledge on what type of leader I am and how I operate in a group. When working with a team, it is important to compromise and receive constructive criticism.
In this artifact, I was able gain further knowledge from another PE teacher who has been teaching for more than 15 years. It is nice to hear from another PE teacher and understand what their experience has been like. Mr. Gamino was able to tell me his philosophy of physical education and the importance of PE.

This artifact allowed me to gain a sense of understanding and values that other PE teachers have when teaching. It was eye opening to see the importance of creating a positive classroom environment and also building trust with his principal.
