The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
This artifact I created in PE 381 discuss the factors of finding success when handling classroom management. One of the most important aspects of teaching is being able to create a foundation and positive environment in your classroom/gymnasium. The knowledge indicator 2A from the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (2013) states "the competent teacher understands theories and philosophies of learning and human development as they relate to the range of students in the classroom"(IPTS 2013).
The sources that I used were extremely valuably as I try to implement these strategies during my student teaching experiences and throughout my teaching career. The knowledge indicator 2A from the llinois Professional Teaching Standards states ""the competent teacher understands theories and philosophies of learning and human development as they relate to the range of students in the classroom"(IPTS 2013). With positive classroom environment there will be better student inclusiveness and learning.
There are many different strategies to use depending on how your students behave and interact with each other and towards the teacher. Each period, I may have different classroom management strategies. I believe that, from experience and through research, establishing rules in the beginning of the year will lead to more success throughout the year. It is helpful when handing out contract agreements s to students and parents so they are familiar with rules and behavior expectations.
This artifact was based on research in PE 315 involving Adaptive Physical Education and the importance of implementing adaptive physical education in school programs. Terry Rizzo, a researcher, identified the lack of quality programs in physical education for students with special needs.
Adaptive PE is important as it affects all SPED students in school. Every student must have equal opportunity to any physical education program. The knowledge indicator 2A from the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (2013) states, "the competent teacher understands theories and philosophies of learning and human development as they relate to the range of students in the classroom"(IPTS 2013).
This artifact helped me undestand the importance and need for adpative PE programs. Schools need to be held accountable for the instruction that needs to be given for SPED students. Mentors/students can building relationships and build social skills with SPED students through these programs.
