The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
This artifact represents there knowledge all the knots that they have been working on in Outdoor ED. This artifact shows students growth through the weeks of knot tying and it gives them a better understanding of what they need to work on and how they are progressing.
The standard that aligns with this artifact is Standard 3B as it states, "understands how to develop short- and long-range plans, including transition plans, consistent with curriculum goals, student diversity, and learning theory."
I also used this artifact as a self-assessment after a week into tying knots. I wanted the students to assess themselves and see if they can score themselves. I used the same artifact at the end of the unit so I can score them. There was major improvement from the beginning of the unit to the end.
This artifact is an adaptive physical education lesson plan that I created which allowed all students to be successful. The lesson was on badminton fundamentals, but instead of using birdies, the class used balloons to make it easier to strike.
The importance of this artifact is to be able to meet students needs. The standard that aligns with this artifact is performance indicator 3p and 3Q - The competent teacher which states, "works with others to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual student needs; and 3Q) develops or selects relevant instructional content, materials, resources, and strategies (e.g., project-based learning) for differentiating instruction."
My goal with every student I teach is to have opportunities and success. This lesson made me fully understand the importance of adaptive PE and creative ways for students to achieve their goals. Modifications are extremely important in physical education.
