The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
This artifact is to show students the concept of the material and to ensure that they are understanding it. I created a Flipped assignment, which is method on how students will watch a video that I created that delivers content within the lesson. So for instance, the students will watch the video and the next class session, they will be prepared to talk about the unit, which in this case, is football positions. I also created a quiz that goes along with the video. My goal was to create two different concepts under the same unit which is understand different football positions and there functions, as well as understanding how to throw a football.
By completing this project, I was able to meet Standard 5 of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards that is reached through effective Instructional Delivery. In the quiz, there are 10 questions of multiple choice and true/false that asks the student about what positions in football and the basic fundamentals of throwing a football. This helps the students, overall, to understand the basic principles of the game. Knowledge Indicator 5B) states "understands principles and techniques, along with advantages and limitations, associated with a wide range of evidence-based instructional practices;". this gives the instructor knowledge on where the students are and how they have progressed throughout the unit. Rather than repeating factual evidence, I am ensuring that they understand the concept which will hopefully apply to their lives daily.
After completing the Flipped assignment, I gained another tool of teaching that I can utilize as a future teacher. I can also use this method incase of another pandemic such as Covid-19. Instructors now are facing different struggles to reach their students and making sure they are understanding the concept of these different units. While teaching online, our methods must be effective and I think the key part is creating a video that also includes the instructor because it can grab the students attention, allowing them to be engaged and participating during the class session.
The artifact I created was a flip project in TechEd 203. In this project, I discuss the different positions in football and what each positions specifically do. I then went into proper technique and cues to throw a football. This project was to show students the basic fundamentals of throwing a football. I wanted to point out the main positions that are important in the game of football.
This artifact aligns with standard 5O. The performance indicator 5O from the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (2013) states, "models and facilitates effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning."
What I learned from this project is being able to utilize technology can be useful for students who learn through visual representations. These artifacts can be help to use for remote learning so students can continue to learn at home instead of a gym. Students can study the throwing techniques and follow along.
