The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.
This artifact was created for an activity called A Minute to Win It as students go through different exercises. I created basic exercise movements that students can read and are familiar with. Each category is highlighted to differentiate what type of exercise/activities they are performing.
The knowledge indicator 6A from the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (2013) states "The competent teacher understands appropriate and varied instructional approaches used before, during, and after reading, including those that develop word knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and strategy use in the content areas." This artifact is important because it breaksdown the specific workouts the students are targeting in this fitness activity.
What I learned from this artifact is that implementing key words such as, cardiovascular endurance or muscular endurance. Before they started the activity, I explained what these words mean and what type of exercises fall under them.
This artifact was created for students to read different fitness exercises. Students created a spin the wheel with different materials. They would be split into there squad colors and each student will get a turn to spin the wheel.

What I learned from this artifact is that it can challenge students reading about different fitness movements that, as a class, we went over. In my PE class, I want to continue to implement reading skills and have students identify the amount of exercises that need to be perform which were on this artifact.
