– The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.
This artifact discusses the community, diversity of the schools, district overall, and parent involvement. Before going into student teaching, i was able to research on what this school struggles with and what they excel in. I think by utilizing this tool, this can can help teachers understand the district/school better and see how teachers can make an impact.
The standard that ties with this paper is Knowledge Indicator 1A from the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards which states, "The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning. This artifact allows me to see how diverse the school is and direct my lessons to be more inclusive which will welcome all students of different cultural backgrounds.
I've learned how to utlizie the Illinois Report Card which allow me to research the school on how it is progressing throughout the years and what changes the district has made overall. If a school is lacking an inclsuive enviroment with how diverse they are, I can use this in an interview and give my ideas on how I can implement more of an inclusive setting within my PE class.
This artifact is a lesson plan to test students aerobic endurance. Similar to the gameboard, Monopoly, the setup in the gym is in a square and students will move however many spaces after the life-size dice has been rolled. After fitness testing, I wanted to students be familiar with endurance to get ready for the next fitness testing. This artifact was for student to get accustomed to different exercise movements mainly for improving their aerobic endurance. Students get around 2 minutes to perform each exercise that is that station. Fitness Monopoly gives students not only fitness exercises, but fun activities like Keep it Up, basketball, and Bucket Bash.
This lesson gives me a better understanding of how conditioned my students are and what level they are at with exercises. My goal was to implement activities that involve muscular endurance that which can pontentially improve throughout the year to prepare them for the next fitness test.
