Ian Byrd (K-12) Ian Byrd is a great resource for advanced learners. Lots of resources to learn more about gifted learners, find some interesting projects. If you haven't already, sign up for his weekly Curiosities and Puzzlements

The Differentiator (K-12) Ian Byrd's easy-to-use guide for differentiating in many different ways - check it out!

Mental Floss (3-12) This is an amazing site for kids (and adults) to get lost in! Make sure you have some time before clicking through!

Big Ideas for Little Scholars (K-8) Amazing units for all ages with high level thinking skills involved!

Exquisite Minds (Teacher resource) This site has lots or articles, information, and resources to increase your knowledge regarding gifted learners.

Visual Patterns (K-12) Try to solve all 280 visual patterns. Given the first three steps in the pattern, can you find the 43rd step in the pattern?

Teaching Children Philosophy (2-6) Check out their book list for philosophical questions that could be used with each book.

Thrively (K-8) Interesting site that has kids take a quiz to determine strengths. They can then participate in different activities by choice or assignment. Has premium features.

Future Learn (8-12) Huge selection of different courses to take for free. No credit or certificate, but great for independent studies on unusual topics.

Which One Doesn't Belong? (K-12) Fun thinking activity to determine which shape, number, or graph/equation doesn't belong. Warning - no answers are given, and many puzzles have more than one answer. These would be great for encouraging explanations.

Weekly Critical Thinking Puzzles (PreK-8) Sign up for free, weekly puzzles sent to your inbox ; puzzles are specifically designed for four different age levels.

Youcubed Math Tasks - (K-12) Resource of tasks leveled by grade and/or topic

Youcubed Algebra - Four week introduction curriculum

Youcubed Week of Inspirational Math - (K-12) One week of new and exciting math to start your year off right - or to use any time! Four past years are also available for use. ***Note: please preview any videos well before you show to the class. Jo Boaler has a history of being anti-gifted.

Open Middle (K-12) Challenging problems that really get kids thinking and explaining. Great site!!

Robert Kaplinsky (K-Alg II) Real world, thought provoking problems. Great site!!

GFletchy (K-6) Challenging math tasks that encourage outside-the-box thinking. Check out the 3-act tasks. There is also a great blog for teacher PD.

NRich (K-12) Nice library of challenging activities. Some have opportunities for kids to send in solutions and get "published"

Phet Math Simulations - (3-12) Online simulations to supplement your lessons.

Brain Genie - (K-12) Extra practice. Earn badges by competing with other students. Create your own class and share challenges with students.

New Visions Curriculum - (6-12) Full open source curriculum for high school, but you may be able to pull some things for your younger kiddos. They have full lessons with links to activities and even powerpoints to share!

Power My Learning - Create playlists for your students to work on at school or home. They include videos, practice problems, and assessments. Standards based. They pull in resources from all over the internet for activities. Looks promising!

Get the Math! (6-10) Gives real life examples of how math is used in every day life. Then provides challenges in different career areas. Site is not longer maintained, but still has good things to use.

Interactivate (3-College) Lots of simulations and games. Sortable by grade or topic.

That Quiz (K-12) Not fancy, but has lots of different quizzes where kids can practice skills.

Printable Nets for Geometry Exploration (K-8) Select from 16 different nets

NCTM website (K-12) Their problem of the week section is amazing. Limited access for free. Worth a year's payment to get past problems from their library.

Bridges Web Apps (K-6) Although designed to go with Bridges math curriculum, these apps are free to use for anyone. Apps can be added to Google Chrome or ipads.



ELA

Common Lit (3-12) A must see site for any ELA teachers. Check out their 'Book Pairing' tab to find short stories that pair well with popular novels. Use the 'Themes' tab to find novel and short stories at different grade levels, but with the same theme - great for differentiating for your various levels!

Inspired Writing (K-12) I find the old site easier to navigate, but it's not being maintained any longer. This site has a lot of resources to aid in Writing instruction.

For The Teachers (K-12) Interesting site that provides lesson plans based on NWEA Map RIT level. The instructional strategies tab has lots of teacher resources for monitoring progress, forming groups, getting kids moving, adapting content, etc.
