The Uncompahgre BOCES aligns with the state definition of a gifted student as follows:

Gifted students are those between the ages of four and twenty-one whose aptitude or competence in abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment in one or more domains are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs. Gifted students include gifted students with disabilities (twice exceptional) and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural populations. We currently identify students in the following areas:

  • General or specific intellectual ability

  • Specific academic aptitude

  • Creativity

  • Leadership

  • Visual Arts, Drama, Music, or Psychomotor abilities

What is a BOCES???

BOCES stands for Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Our area is extremely small and remote. Our local school districts have formed a cooperative to provide services together that they would not be able to afford on their own. Gifted education is one of many departments within the Uncompahgre BOCES. For further information, see their site here.
