Early Access to Kindergarten or First Grade

Early Access Identification is available for highly gifted 4 and 5 year olds to allow them to enter Kindergarten and/or 1st grade earlier than their age would permit.

Testing for early access opportunities is completed by request only. All requests must be submitted in writing to the child's home school district by the April 1 preceding enrollment. This allows school staff enough time to administer and analyze the assessment data.

Early access is not appropriate for every child. Careful consideration is given to ability, current achievement levels, and social/emotional readiness. The criteria for admitting a child for early access is much more rigorous than a gifted identification to ensure proper placement for the young child. All four areas must indicate that a child is ready for advanced placement.

Early access is only allowed in a student's home district. Please contact the principal of the elementary school for additional information. Following written request to consider a student for early access, the school principal will provide documents to the parent for completion.
