Appeal Process

Any parent/guardian who feels the recommendations regarding identification and/or programming made by the identification or Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) team are inappropriate should file an appeal in writing with principal of their child’s school. The principal will meet with the BOCES gifted coordinator to review all documents, complaints, and previous decisions. A written decision will be provided to the parent/guardian within 15 school days.

If the decision is still not acceptable and additional information has come to light, the parent/guardian my file an additional written appeal with the district superintendent within five school days of the principal's decision. The superintendent will review all previous documentation and new information to reach a decision within 15 school days. The superintendent's decision will be final.
