Earning a certification isn't just about showing off... it demonstrates your commitment to your own professional development and edtech. They are also a great way of learning new things about tools you already know a lot about!
The Apple Teacher certification is a badges-based qualification with multiple choice quizzes and no final exam. You can choose either the iPad pathway, or the Mac pathway. Once you have collected 6 badges, you will be certified as an Apple Teacher. A further qualification is also available with Swift Coding.
Sign into the Apple Teacher Learning Centre at appleteacher.apple.com with the Apple ID you set up in 'on your marks'.
On the intro page, read the program overview and click done in the top right corner
In the Apple Teacher Learning Centre, choose the Learn & Earn section...
Choose either the iPad or Mac pathway, clicking on Learn Skills to learn more or Earn Badges to attempt the quiz.
There are 6 badges to earn for the iPad...
And 6 badges for the Mac...
To be awarded the Apple Teacher certification you must pass all six multiple choice quizzes in one section.
Each quiz has five questions. You must get 4 out of 5 correct to earn the badge.
You will get immediate feedback after each question.
If you fail, you can retake the quiz immediately.
The quiz isn't easy, but will be easier if you can try things out on nearby Mac or iPad!
Once you’ve collected all 6 badges, you’ll receive an official Apple Teacher logo and Certificate of Recognition via email. You can go on to complete more badges as well as accessing more resources.
Become an Apple Teacher Swift Playgrounds
You can upgrade your Apple Teacher certification by completing extra badges on Apple's 'learn to code' app - Swift Playgrounds.
The Google Educator Level 1 is an exam based qualification with a multiple choice quiz and a live Google account performance exam. The examination must be completed within 3 hours, and will take, on average 2 hours.
The exam costs US$10 and will be ready to take 24 hours after registration. If you fail the exam you must wait before you can take it again (14 days for second attempt, 60 days for third attempt. 365 days for fourth attempt).
You need to do some preparation for the exam, as you will need to use Google tools that you might not have used before, such as Google Groups.
Sign into the Google Teacher Centre at teachercenter.withgoogle.com using the personal GMail account created in 'on your marks'.
Scroll down to certifications, or go direct to this link.
Click Get Training to learn more about all the Google tools, Get Practise to learn more about the examination and Get Certified to register for the exam.
To register for an exam, you will need to create a webassesor account. You will do this automatically after clicking the Exam Details page.
Level 1 certification is valid for two years. After this, you may choose to complete Google Certified Educator Level 2, or continue your Google Educator journey to become a Google Trainer and Google Innovator.
The Microsoft Innovative Educator is an badges-based qualification with multiple choice quizzes and no final exam. You can choose multiple pathways to achieve the Microsoft Innovative Educator award.
Go to education.microsoft.com/en-us and sign in with the Microsoft account you created earlier to confirm your age and privacy settings. Your Microsoft Education account will now be linked to your Microsoft account.
Scroll down to Explore Courses and click on Browse Courses to start earning badges. Click under View your achievements to see the courses you have completed, the points earned and progress towards the Microsoft Innovative Educator.
Click on a course that you are interested in following. You will be taken to the course page, which will show:
Course Title & Level
Suggested duration
Recognition (Badge and points awarded)
Click Start Course to begin.
Most courses are assessed with a multiple-choice quiz. The passing rate is usually 80%.
You will receive the Microsoft Innovative Educator badge and certificate after earning just 1000 points. But you definitely shouldn't stop at 1000 points!
If you want to go further, the next level of the program Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert is available by application.
Many edtech companies offer microcredentials (quick qualifications) and ambassadorships. These can show your enthusiasm for a particular product and skills in using it - but approach with caution! Weigh up the membership requirements and responsibilities against the benefits and time commitments.
