Screencastify is a Chrome extension for recording what is happening on your screen.
Screencastify offers a free option (with videos limited to 5 minutes) and a paid service.
What can I do with Screencastify?
Screencastify allows you to record from a tab, your whole screen and webcam. You can narrate what is happening on screen and save videos into Google Drive. Screencastify also allows simple video editing and creation of animated GIF files.
Go to screencastify.com in a Chrome browser window. Click the Add to Chrome button. This will take you to the Chrome web store. From here, again, click Add to Chrome.
The Screencastify extension will be installed.
Access Screencastify from the top right of your Chrome browser window. Click on the small icon to launch the extension.
The first time you launch Screencastify, you need to sign in with your Google account and allow the extension to access your camera, microphone and Google Drive.
Click the small icon in the menu bar to run the Screencastify extension.
From here, you can choose to record:
one browser tab
the whole desktop
just the webcam
You can also embed your webcam into the browser tab or desktop.
Press Record to start recording.
If you have clicked to show drawing tools, they will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen when recording.
You can draw, spotlight or emphasise clicks during your screen recording. You can also turn the webcam on/off during the recording.
When you have finished recording, click the Screencastify icon in the top bar to end the recording.
When you have finished recording, you can share or download the video. The video is automatically saved on your Google Drive in the Screencastify folder.
