In effect the RPC is charged with the responsibilities to:
Select, monitor and make decisions related to progression of residents through their levels and stages of training.
Ensure that the program meets all applicable standards and guidelines of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, of the University of Western Ontario and of the Department of Medicine.
Review the goals, objectives and training experiences for each component of the program.
Review problems and concerns identified by the residents in relation to the program.
Review concerns around the resident’s performance and evaluation.
Make decisions about probation and remediation of residents failing to progress as expected.
Review and facilitate on-going involvement in research by the residents.
Composition
Committee is selected to ensure there is representative from each training site. In addition we have a resident representative fulfilled by the Chief Geriatric Medicine resident. As well we have corresponding committee members who are copied in minutes.

Attend all meetings, or arrange for a well-briefed delegate to attend.
Actively seek concerns/issues of fellow students and advise Program Director of issues to be placed on the Agenda and/or report concern during meetings of the Committee.
Actively communicate issues, decisions and matters discussed at committee meetings with fellow residents, recognizing and respecting the need for confidentiality and/or discretion especially when performance evaluation of residents and/or faculty is discussed.
Participate with task groups, as required.
Complete, in a timely manner, tasks assigned and minutes.
