In the first year the core rotation site supervisor will ensure you have an interim and final rotation-specific evaluation. Residents will receive an evaluation from their longitudinal clinic supervisor every 6 months. For second year electives, it is the responsibility of the resident to ensure he/she has sent the Program Director a set of learning objectives agreed upon by the rotation supervisor. The resident will then ensure an interim and final rotation specific evaluation based on these objectives, as well as a generic Department of Medicine evaluation form (ITER) are completed, reviewed and submitted to the Program Director.
There are rotation specific evaluations to be completed at the end of each rotation with input from multiple sources including: evaluation by junior trainees, patient and family, administrative staff, and other health care professional team members. Formal evaluation of oral presentations will also be provided.
As part of EPA assessment in CBME residents are required to complete 4 standardized assessments of clinical evaluation reports (STACERS): 2 CGA (1 in Foundations and 1 in Core), 1 Family Meeting and 1 Team Meeting.
The Royal College requires participation in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program as a professional obligation. This program encourages the physician to engage in lifelong learning. It encourages ongoing reflective learning. Geriatric Medicine residents are taught the basis of this program and are required to keep a learning diary according to the MOC format which will be reviewed yearly. For further information about this program go to http://rcpsc.medical.org/opa/moc-program/index.php
A Final In-training Evaluation will be done at the end of the residency that will be forwarded to the Royal College. Please find a copy of the FITER attached in the appendices.
Any resident wishing to appeal their evaluation should first appeal to their rotation supervisor and subsequently, if required, appeal to the Residency Program Committee. If the concern is not adequately resolved, further appeal can be made to the Faculty Postgraduate Medical Education Committee. The policies with respect to remediation can be found at:
