Ozone Hypothesis
I find this interesting, since it was a precursor to Global Warming. Nasa discovered that there were 'hole's in the ozone layer of the Earth during the polar winters. This was 'unprecedented', since it couldn't have been measured before satellites. In order to pump up their political support, they made a big deal of this, with the same 'We're all going to die.' hyperbole.
They ditched the 'Scientific Method', since that didn't play well in Congress. They went to Aristotle, which means 'See a thing, make up a story. And support your story by fiery debate.'. Everybody loves that!
So, they discovered these holes which were probably there since the beginning of time. With earthquakes, you put in a bunch of seismometers and you detect lots of earthquakes. You then try to link this with historic records. They could have done with the ozone holes. How to they link to earthside UV measurements? Nobody gets worse sunburn during the winter.
They were under political pressure, so they weren't reasonable. Then somebody flew a plane and found higher concentrations of chlorine compounds where there was the least ozone. There could have been a million reasons for this, but they decided to create an Internet Myth. These are things that play well to the masses, and 'Evil Capitalism' is a good theme. They immediately said "Chlorine causes ozone holes'. Then somebody found a fantastical chemical reaction that could do it, if it actually existed. The Montreal Protocol was born.
This can never be reversed because nobody would get funding for it. Some brave nasa people did publish papers that the chemical reaction cannot exist with the natural conditions high up in the stratosphere. They were destroyed, and the papers vanished. Nasa Venus people moved in to take over Earth Atmospheric Physics. Same stuff.
Everybody can bury this, since a real result doesn't matter anymore. However, this set up Global Warming, and nasa's allergy to the Scientific Method. We are still paying for that. In the end, this was a phony issue. The physics tells us that in extreme cold, there are no chemical reactions at all, including the formation of ozone. We get ozone holes when the temperature cycle is at a bottom, like in the 70's to 90's. The northern ozone hole is coming back, larger than ever, with our new cold cycle.
