Heat Budget

Since almost the beginning, the Earth has maintained 'shirt sleeve' weather for life to form and evolve. This wasn't an easy thing to do. About 4 billion years ago, the Earth was still very hot, and losing the geothermal heat quickly. At some point, the solar heat exceeded Earth heat, and now our cold Earth contributes 500 times less heat than the solar influx. Until plants started producing oxygen, we had mostly methane and carbon dioxide filling the 20% of the atmosphere that oxygen now holds. Throughout all this, the temperatures were low enough for life to evolve. It was water that saved us.

In all the diagrams, they leave out the fact that over 99% of the heat energy is transferred through the atmosphere by convection. This has been proven by simple weather balloon studies. Anybody who mentioned these studies were destroyed.
