According to business leader, car enthusiast, and fitness buff Gene Bernshtam, the importance of what a person wears when he works out is often understated. A gym-goer’s gear is every bit as significant to his or her safety when engaging in serious physical activity. For example, wearing the wrong pair of shoes can lead to pain, and sometimes even injury. Having said that, different fitness routines require different kinds of gear. For today’s blog, Gene Bernshtam looks at the requirements of high intensity interval training, or HIIT.
HIIT routines such as CrossFit are extremely dynamic, and they require a person wear clothes that help them move freely. For shoes, cross-trainers are the ideal choice. Gene Bernshtam cautions against using running shoes since people may roll their ankles while doing lateral movements.
As for the upper body, Gene Bernshtam recommends lightweight and durable shirts or tank tops since they let the body breathe. DRI-Fit shirts are also a great choice because they absorb sweat with minimal odor and are cool on the physique.
Back in the day, people would wear sweat pants, or jogging pants. However, Gene Bernshtam mentions that shorts and leggings have become much more comfortable and oh-so-easy to move in. Leggings also absorb sweat better and they almost never become soggy. They also provide better ventilation, Gene Bernshtam adds.
If the HIIT includes hanging on bars or lifting weights, Gene Bernshtam suggests investing in weightlifting gloves or tapes. Compression sleeves for knees are also recommended for people with knee problems. Face towels are, of course, always a must to keep people from wetting everything they touch with their perspiration.
