About Garendon
and the Friends of Garendon Park
and the Friends of Garendon Park
The Friends of Garendon Park was set up to ensure the Park is restored to a high quality and meets all the planning obligations. It is a Grade II Registered Park and Garden, created in the 18th Century. The site was originally a Cistercian Abbey on which a Palladian mansion was built. Both were destroyed but the plans for the landscape and monuments remains. The boundary is red lined opposite.
Outline consent (P/14/1833/2) was given for 3,200 dwellings to the north of the Park on the condition that the Park was restored and open to the public.
The show house and sales offices are on William Raillton Road, LE12 5EB .
This website provides information about the history wildlife, access and planning obligations. We are an unincorporated organisation with constitution here.
During the last year we have brought a number of matters to the attention of the developers (Persimmon Homes) and local planning authority (Charnwood). Here are some:
The proposal for a Visitor Centre
The need for Car Parking at Snells Nook and access for disability
The delay in agreeing treatment of Public Rights of Way
The closure of Coach Road and diversions of K68/NCN6
The need for litter bins and seats at key locations.
The need to control the unauthorised use of motor bikes.
Appropriate access to private dwellings and businesses within the Registered Park.
Suitably designed permanent security around monuments.
Friends of Garendon Park have been grateful for privileged access to the historic abbey and Hall grounds.
