Universally, voice is a medium of communication and expression in nature. In Music, Voice is responsible for abstract creativity. The singing voice is considered as the first instrument which can influence and rebalance the mind. A sweet, melodious, loud enough, energetic, smooth, steady, effective and flexible speaking or singing voice is always appreciated. One's voice is a part and parcel of one's personality. Voice has a close relation with person's health, both physical and mental.
Human Voice is the sound produced by the passing of air through the vocal apparatus in the throat controlled by a set of muscles. The human voice is superior to all man-made instruments. The Human voice has an additional element of articulation which differentiates it from all instruments. The Vocal cavity and the organs inside are capable of change in shape and producing a wide variety of sounds. All aspects of sound such as pitch, volume, tone, timbre, and emotion can be changed at will making it the best of instruments.
The use of the voice in Indian Music differs from music of other countries as Indian Music differs in its structure, temperament and method of improvisation and has the most striking feature of being a synthesis between four aspects of Philosophy, Psychology, Spirituality and Aesthetics.
