Join Gandharv Kendra - School of Indian Classical Music
Scholars have different opinions on how, when and where music all started. Music of India is as old as the land itself. The classical music of India is one of the oldest surviving art traditions spanning thousands of years. Right from the Vedic period, Music has been attributed to the goddess Sarawathi who then spread the language of music to Narad and the Gandharvas and then to Rishis. With early origins in Vedic chanting, Indian music has evolved, adapted to changing times and rulers of the land who brought in different approaches to music which has amalgamized into the current day form of classical music.
Plato has stated that “the culture and civilization of a country is judged from the state of the musical art of the country, hence India holds a unique place in the world”.
Let us understand the evolution of music through the ages!
