Join Gandharv Kendra - School of Indian Classical Music
Post the 12th Century, we find that the music of India began to diverge and develop independently, evolving into its current forms practiced today. With firm foundations in the Prabhanda form of music, Music of North India began to assimilate the ideas of the Persian Music, folk and regional flavours yet retaining the idea of Raga and Taal. After Prabhand, we find the development of Dhrupad and then Khayal, Tappa, Tarana, Khayalnuma, Chaturang, Trivat, Ashtapadis in the genre of North Indian Classical Music. Instrumental Music to developed on its own lines with some musicians following the vocal style and some following the instrumental style of playing.
