Morning on the train was early after traversing the Sutpour Mountains through the night. Dr. Floyd chose this new railway as the shortest distance to Calcutta. The newspaper had reported the opening of the line only a few days earlier. He glanced at his watch, expecting arrival in just a few short hours. Suddenly, the train stopped.
Mademoiselle Passepartout hastily opened the cabin door. “Monsieur, no more railway!”
“What?” questioned Floyd. “The newspaper said this route was completed.”
“The newspaper was mistaken," said Passepartout, with some concern.
Your whole travelling troupe exits the train. Looking around you see only bungalows and workmen's cabins. Everyone searches the village for some means of transportation. “This delay is a great disadvantage” remarks a team member. “No, it was foreseen. We will have to go on foot.”
Mlle Passeparout exclaims, “On foot?” and peers down at her worn slides that surely would not hold up much longer. “Non, ce n'est pas possible!”
Mlle Passepartout is also busy peeking behind the cabins and in the the larger buildings. She returns to Dr. Floyd with a wry grimace. “Monsieur, I think I have found a means of conveyance." Just as Dr. Floyd begins to speak, an elephant walks out from behind a small hut.
What a picture this will make. Your team riding across India on an Elephant! Did you notice how creative the team became when it appeared there was nothing in the village? Let’s see how creative you can be with the empty canvas called Google Draw.
Google Draw is an online environment for creating and designing. Explore all the ways that teachers are using Google Draw (click the link) to creatively design lessons. Each member of the team should open Google Drive and create a blank Google Draw. Explore the toolbar. See what you can make.
Challenge #1
Design an interactive for your subject. Using shapes, text boxes, links, and if needed images, design either a sorting activity, matching, labeling, or diagram activity for students to complete either individually or in pairs. Provide a link to the finished interactive. Be sure the interactive is stored in your Team Drive.
Challenge #2
Design a lesson in which students are the creators. (exemplar) What will they create? Do the templates give you ideas or do you have one of your own? Provide a link to the lesson plan. In this challenge you do not need to create a Google Draw, only instructions for what students will create.
How does Google Draw promote one of the Portrait of a Graduate skills? Discuss with your CLT how this tool could be used as a means to teach and practice a POG attribute. Add a link to your CLT notes about this discussion.
